Dude, pick up after yourself

This semester has witnessed many outdoor areas around campus have been closed off with caution tape, preventing students from eating in these locations during lunch.

Suddenly students who are trying to find a suitable lunch sport outside are now forced to look elsewhere.

The Dean’s office felt the need to make this decision due to the amount of trash left out after lunch.

“The volume and frequency of trash left behind by students at lunch, during passing periods, and before/after school has, at times, been excessive,” said Dean Elftmann ’00. “In special circumstances, the Dean’s Office has made the decision to close areas of campus that are not left tidy/orderly, as excessive trash left behind can become unsafe or unhygienic.”

This change has led to students not always having a confirmed place to eat on campus, and requires students who enjoy eating outside to pick up after themselves.

“This is a shared campus, and we are blessed to enjoy such a beautiful space each day,” said Dean Elftmann. “We hope and expect that students will take the appropriate steps to ensure their spaces are clean and tidy after enjoying lunch.”
