Holy Bowl Rally: a pillar of brotherhood at Jesuit
Jesuit High School Sacramento’s annual Holy Bowl is one of the largest sporting events of the year. On the Friday night before the game, Jesuit hosts the Holy Bowl Rally, an opportunity for students to show up and show out to support the brotherhood.
For Student Activities Director Mr. Peter Ferrari, the Holy Bowl Rally is a staple of school spirit at Jesuit.
“It’s a tradition that’s developed over the years,” Mr. Ferrari said. “It’s an exciting event that we have every year. [It’s] just fun to celebrate our students: celebrate our football team. We just hope that all of our students will come; it should be a really fun experience.”
Mr. Ferrari encourages everyone to attend the event to give Jesuit’s football team some love and support.
“It’s fun to get together the night before and just get out and cheer together and get excited,” Mr. Ferrari said.
Head Cheerleader Evan Morton ’26 has high hopes for the football team as well as for the student section.
“We’re pretty set for the season, just ’cause, most of the football team are seniors,” Evan said. “We know what we’re doing out there. And, you know, the cheering, hopefully we’ll bring some hype to the players and then they can do a little bit better. We’re gonna get those cheers going, teach everybody a little bit, touch them up on those cheers […] It’ll be a fun time.”
Morton also believes that Holy Bowl Rally is more than just an event – it’s a gateway for students to connect.
“We’re all cheering together, and while we’re cheering, it brings us all together even closer, and you know, because we’re all doing the same thing, we’re gonna kind of stick together through the game and that kind of creates that brotherhood,” Evan said.
The Holy Bowl Rally will run from 7-9 p.m. in the Fr. Barry Gym, on Friday, Sept. 12. Tickets are free but make sure you bring your student ID, and all Jesuit and Saint Francis High School students are welcome to attend.
