At Jesuit High School Sacramento, the Junior Retreat is an opportunity for the students of the junior class to engage in meaningful reflection on their faith and the choices that they make.

“Spiritual formation is very important in all Jesuit schools because we try to form both the mind, the heart, and the hands in a way,” said Associate Director of Campus Ministry Ms. Alice Klarsfeld. “How do our choices shape who we are? Are the choices we make aligned with what God wants for us? Are the choices that we make ones that can make us happy, ones that can fulfill what we are meant to do in this life?”

The overnight stay at Christ the King is a time for the juniors to reflect on their personal history, allowing them to learn and grow from those past experiences.

“It’s a time of reflection on how you’ve navigated maybe some of the choices that you faced in your life, and drawing from the fruits of that reflection, hopefully informing you on how to be that best version of yourself when you’re faced with choices in the future,” said Director of Campus Ministry Mr. Adam McGrew ’15.

Ultimately, the retreat advances the Jesuit mission of forming students into men for others.

“It’s important to be vulnerable if you wanna be a man for others,” said Junior Retreat Leader Keegan Butler ’26. “It’s important to be connected to those around you, to treat others as you would yourself. The juniors come out more together. They come out more spiritually open, [and] closer to God.”
