Spanish teacher Ms. Katy Fox has returned to Jesuit High School Sacramento after four years away. Having worked at Jesuit from 2011 to 2019, she is excited to once again teach Jesuit students the wonders of the Spanish language.

Ms. Fox became a teacher to give students confidence in the language that has shaped much of her adult life.

“I studied Spanish in college and lived in southern Spain,” Ms. Fox said. “I was raised in an entirely English household and had no native speaker influence prior to living in Spain. My passion is to show all students that regardless of their exposure, they can become proficient and confident speaking ‘en Español.’”

World Language Department Chair Ms. Teresa Herrera had worked with Ms. Fox for five years before she left, and she is happy to welcome Ms. Fox back to the World Language Department.

“I love her vivaciousness and spontaneity,” Ms. Herrera said. “She brings a lot of high energy to her classes and she’s very happy to be back and she transmits that through her day to day. I’m glad she is back and that everyone can take advantage of her presence here and [she can] share as much as she can about what she has learned about Colombian culture.”

French and Spanish teacher Ms. Leslie Wilson is happy to have Ms. Fox back teaching, as she brings a love for her job to her students.

“I know that she felt torn about leaving,” Ms. Willson said. “She loves teaching and cares so much about her students. She was sad knowing that she would be leaving the relationships she had developed at Jesuit. She also knew that, if it were possible, she would return to teaching at JHS as soon as all the pieces worked out, and they did.”

Ms. Fox is excited to return to a school that allows students to have an enriching experience connecting religion with everyday life.

“I love the community and brotherhood among the boys,” Ms. Fox said. “I love that we can incorporate faith into our daily conversations. There is a richness and support here that you cannot access at a traditional high school.”

After four years away, Ms. Fox is excited to be back and is ready to display the beauty of the Spanish language to our community once again.
