Opinion: Unsung Supercell games

When most people think of Supercell, three games come to mind: Clash of Clans, Clash Royale, and Brawl Stars. The “big three” have dominated the mobile gaming industry for nearly a decade, keeping teens all over the world addicted to their phones and inspiring memes, tournaments, and communities. However, behind the popular mainstream games lie a collection of underrated gems that never received the attention they deserve.

Take Boom Beach, a tropical strategy game that mixes military tactics with exploration. Its slower pace and focus on long-term planning makes it a hidden gem for players who enjoy strategizing and using their brains.

Another overlooked Supercell game is Clash Mini, an auto-battler that places the Clash Universe characters in a smaller, faster, format. Players position miniature versions of classic characters like the Barbarian King and Archer Queen on a compact battlefield. Although it offered deep strategy and quick, satisfying gameplay, Clash Mini didn’t receive much attention. This game stood out as one of the studio’s most creative projects but was terminated. Fortunately, the game has since been added to Clash Royale, under the name Merge Tactics.

Hay Day is Supercell’s most underrated game. Unlike Supercell’s other fast-paced, competitive games, Hay Day offers a relaxing farming experience focused on progressing your farm and community. Its polished animations and cooperative trading system make it stand out over any other mobile farming game. Even though it doesn’t receive the same attention as Supercell’s big three, it remains a calm, well-designed game that deserves more recognition.

Supercell may be best known for its internet-breaking hits, but these underrated games show Supercell’s real strength: creating games that are fun, polished, and full of heart, even when they’re not in the spotlight.
