Weekly Update – December 1, 2022

Update

Parents and Friends,

Advent is a time when we are reminded that God is with us. It is also a time of anticipation where we await Christ’s light. We experience this season of remembrance and anticipation at Jesuit High School in various ways – music, ministry, and activities.

We will hold our Annual Lessons and Carols concert this coming Sunday and Monday in the North American Martyrs Phelan Chapel. The Chamber choirs from Jesuit and St. Francis will help us experience the light of Christ’s presence through the beauty of music and prayer.

The week ahead continues with more performances of the season. We will have the Winter Orchestra, Band, and Choral concerts – all are free and open to the entire community. One of the primary goals of the Visual and Performing Arts Department at Jesuit is to “develop and cultivate the creative imagination of each of our students, who bear witness to the beauty and imagination of God alive in our world.” The performances will also allow this goal to be realized as they, too, bring some light into this world.

On Thursday, our Campus Ministry Team and Liturgy Workshop will lead us in the Feast of the Immaculate Conception Liturgy. Family and alums are welcome to attend and celebrate the Eucharist with us.

The joys and traditions of the season also fill the air with cheers as the 48th Annual Father Barry Christmas Classic brings together eight Catholic high schools from across California for the three-day tournament held in the gym that bears its name.

Lastly, I challenge you to bring light to local families who might otherwise face a dark holiday season by contributing to our “Operation Cratchit” Food Drive. If your family has already donated, thank you. Your final chance to donate is Friday morning. This is Jesuit’s oldest tradition, and it helps feed more than 700 families each year through the Stanford Settlement Neighborhood Center.

I am grateful to serve a school community with supportive and engaged families. We cannot do this work without you. Jesuit is more than a school, and our young men are more than students to us. We are a community of people working to bring light into the world.

Blessings to you and yours during this holiday season!

Sincerely,

Michael Wood ’99
Principal
