Seniors invited to come together for “Racing into Senior Year” event
On Tuesday, April 13, Jesuit High School Sacramento seniors can attend the “Racing Through Senior Year” event at K1 Speed from 7 to 9 p.m.
Students who attend will be able to purchase food from the Tacos Los Reyes food truck and win prizes for being one of the top racers. In order to participate, seniors must have a current negative COVID-19 screening from Monday, April 12.
Because seniors have experienced a socially distanced final year of high school during the pandemic, Assistant Principal for Instruction & Student Life Dr. Fadia Desmond wants them to be celebrated and to have a great moment together before graduation.
“Our primary goal is to celebrate the Class of 2021 and provide opportunities for them to spend time together in these final months of school,” Dr. Desmond said. “These remaining months are precious and if we can carve out fun, yet safe events, it’s absolutely worth it for our seniors.”
When it came to picking out an idea for an event, Dr. Desmond thought go-kart racing would allow seniors to embrace their childhood before heading off to college.
“Go-kart racing is what many of our students did as kids. Giving them a chance to still enjoy being kids is often the whole premise behind events for our seniors.” Dr. Desmond said.
Gabriel De La Torre ’21, who will be attending the “Racing Through Senior Year” event, is thankful that Jesuit has organized this event.
“I think it’s great that Jesuit is putting in effort to give us some memories of our senior year,” Gabriel said. “I believe this will be a fun event which I look forward to going to.”
“Racing Through Senior Year” isn’t the first event that Jesuit has had for seniors; the school organized an event at Haggin Oaks Golf Complex on March 2 called “Spring and Swing into Senior Year.”
“Seeing the smiles on face and genuine gratitude from our seniors who attended the event at Haggin Oaks, showed me that there is simple joy in spending time with classmates, especially when you know that the big goodbye is just around the corner,” Dr. Desmond said.
Despite the pandemic stripping seniors of a normal final year of high school, it is clear that Jesuit is trying its best to celebrate the Class of 2021 and give them a special moment together before they graduate.
Seniors can buy tickets to the event through the school’s website. Ticket sales close at noon on Tuesday, April 13.
