Weekly Update – September 30

October means that we are in the midst of admissions season where we spend countless hours preaching about the mission of Jesuit High School and the incredible opportunities that it affords our students. Our Admissions Team is doing excellent work as they attend school visits, organize shadow days, and prepare for our Future Marauder Open Campus event on Sunday, October 17. I am especially excited about the new innovations we have built into this year’s open house. We have activated more areas of the campus, offering greater opportunities for personal interaction and a hands-on feel of what it is like to be a Marauder.

Our current parents and students are our greatest ambassadors, so I ask that you spread the word and invite prospective families to attend! This annual event is one of the most important for spreading the word about Jesuit High School and getting people on campus to hear our story and see what it means to form Men for Others.

Jesuit football shutout Inderkum in Homecoming game

On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders had a tremendous 45-0 victory over Inderkum High School in their Homecoming football game.

The Marauders started off hot with a 12 yard TD pass just five minutes into the first quarter by quarterback Trenton Dewar ’23 to running back Kai Santos ’22, to go up 7-0. With five minutes to go in the second quarter, cornerback Jackson Hagopian ’22 made the game 14-0, with a massive 62-yard pick six.

Four Jesuit students are announced as semifinalists for the National Merit Scholarship

The National Merit Scholarship is awarded to students who scored the highest in the nation and the state on their PSAT and have a history of academic excellence.

On Sept. 15, the program announced approximately 16 thousand semifinalists across the nation, and Jesuit High School Sacramento is lucky enough to count four seniors among that group: Charlie Diaz ’22, James Irwin ’22, Mathew Mellas ’22, and Robert Lee ’22.

To become a semifinalist for the National Merit Scholarship is a remarkable accomplishment.

Weekly Update – August 26

This is a good time to remind families of some basic expectations as they relate to our COVID mitigation. Please keep students home from school when sick and notify our school nurse of any positive cases or exposures in your family. This has been working well so far and we appreciate the support and communication from our families. We have seen relatively few cases in our school community since the start of the school year.

If we do start to see cases rise in our school community, Jesuit may ask that all students show proof of vaccine or provide a recent negative COVID test as an added layer of safety. Families will be notified in advance, will be given plenty of time to provide proof of vaccine or negative test. Using this tool as an occasional layer of mitigation will help us to be safe, minimize exposures and quarantines, and ensure that the campus can remain open for all students, faculty, and staff. Again, we share this as a possible option should the school feel it is a necessary step.

Parents and Friends,

The excitement for the start of the 2021-22 school year is growing, and our planning for the opening of school is nearly finalized. I am pleased to report that our staffing is fully complete. With several new faculty and support staff joining us next month, the physical campus is getting its final touches for our full return. The enhancements to our many programs are being finalized. As we have stated before, we are confident that Jesuit High School will emerge from the experience of the last 17 months stronger than before.

Meet the New Summer Program Director
Summer at Jesuit gets ready for a program rich in academics, athletics and fun for all ages and a new director

SACRAMENTO, CA:  Summer programming at Jesuit Sacramento is getting underway—registration is now open for high school classes – youth sports, special interest camps, and Academics Plus, the long-standing “Marauder experience” program for boys, opens later in February. While there are plenty of programs and camps that always makes Summer at Jesuit a great thing to add to your calendar, this year will bring some fresh, new camps both in-person on the 56-acre campus and also online.

It isn’t just these class offerings that are new; Summer at Jesuit also has a new director, Greg Harcos. Harcos is a Jesuit Sacramento alumnus, class of 1989, and brings an abundant, diverse experience in many areas from athletics to academics, leadership to motivation.

Learn more about the new Summer Director in this preview of an upcoming article from our winter edition of Jesuit Magazine…

Should Your Child Take Advanced Placement (AP) Classes?

Advanced Placement (or AP) classes are college level courses for high school students. The benefits of AP classes are integral to a student’s success in college. Students who take AP classes will be better prepared to tackle college-level curriculum and can earn credit for introductory college courses during high school. As a college preparatory institution, Jesuit High School of Sacramento encourages all students to take advanced placement courses.
