Jesuit High School is expanding the iPad program that has served the school well during the last four years. When we adopted the iPad program, it was clear that this was the best device for Jesuit at that time. As technological tools and platforms have developed since then, Jesuit has determined that a different approach to the one-to-one program will better serve the students and teachers. We will now take advantage of more recent developments and trends in educational technology that offer a variety of options to better serve the learning needs and preferences of our students.
Jesuit has adopted a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program. This means families may choose a laptop, tablet, or iPad from a list of recommended devices that meet minimum specifications. We adopted this program for several reasons:
Desire for students to be able to produce original work and customize their learning experience
Ability of eBooks for some classes and prevalence of web-based tools and non-device specific programs
Ability to fully utilize Google classroom and researching online
Freedom for students to choose a device that fits their comfort level and interests
Budgetary flexibility for families
So, how does this work? Families will be able to purchase a device of their own choosing. The links below provide specification requirements and offer examples of approved devices to help families make informed decisions. Please consider the following steps before purchasing a device for your family:
Review the recommended devices and minimum requirements
Attend the Welcome Class of 2023 event May 1st or attend on of the Parent Survival Skills 101 events July 10th or August 8th to see examples of these devices
Research the capabilities and prices of the specific device in which you are interested
Purchase the device that best meets your family’s needs
Select textbooks/ebooks based on your new device
While this program allows for choice and customization, student devices are required to meet several requirements. The list of minimum requirements is located here: Minimum Requirements
We have also created a list of recommended devices that is meant to help families narrow their search, not dictate specific devices. This list is located here: Recommended Devices
