Academic Guidance

Overview

Academic Guidance

Counselors disseminate information relevant to a student’s academic needs, thus enabling him to make sound and mature decisions regarding his performance and future planning. This includes information regarding course selection, graduation requirements, special placements, summer school, discussion and interpretation of standardized testing (PSAT, PreACT, SAT Reasoning Test & SAT Subject Tests, ACT), study skills, behavior, motivation, Peer Tutoring, and Academic Probation monitoring.

JHS follows a comprehensive counseling model.

Getting ready for SAT/ACT accommodations

Any student needing college admissions testing accommodations needs full educational testing to prove the need for the accommodations. This educational testing includes both cognitive and achievement assessments. An example of a common accommodation is extended-time testing. Additionally, students need to be using the accommodations regularly in school and they need to have an Academic Support Plan in place through the Academic Support Center.
