Dance on Saturday, August 21
Minimal impact on parking, noise expected
Jesuit’s annual back-to-school dance, that was originally to be held in the Barry Gym, has been shifted outdoors because of the recently published public health COVID safety guidelines provided to all schools by the county and state.

COVID policy reminders, orientations
Parents and Friends,
In this week’s update, we have some additional details and changes regarding our COVID-19 mitigation plans to start the school year, all informed by the Sacramento County Department of Public Health, California Department of Public Health, and CDC, and the state of the virus in the greater Sacramento community. We also share some important reminders for next week’s events and other information for the start of school.

Staying Connected – July 15
A back-to-school update and "tool kit"
Parents and Friends,
The excitement for the start of the 2021-22 school year is growing, and our planning for the opening of school is nearly finalized. I am pleased to report that our staffing is fully complete. With several new faculty and support staff joining us next month, the physical campus is getting its final touches for our full return. The enhancements to our many programs are being finalized. As we have stated before, we are confident that Jesuit High School will emerge from the experience of the last 17 months stronger than before.

Donovan Jasper '21 selected as one of 161 outstanding high school seniors in the United States.
Sacramento, CA – U.S. Secretary of Education Dr. Miguel Cardona announced this week that Jesuit High School of Sacramento senior Donovan Jasper is a 2021 U.S. Presidential Scholar.
Meet the New Summer Program Director
Summer at Jesuit gets ready for a program rich in academics, athletics and fun for all ages and a new director
SACRAMENTO, CA: Summer programming at Jesuit Sacramento is getting underway—registration is now open for high school classes – youth sports, special interest camps, and Academics Plus, the long-standing “Marauder experience” program for boys, opens later in February. While there are plenty of programs and camps that always makes Summer at Jesuit a great thing to add to your calendar, this year will bring some fresh, new camps both in-person on the 56-acre campus and also online.
It isn’t just these class offerings that are new; Summer at Jesuit also has a new director, Greg Harcos. Harcos is a Jesuit Sacramento alumnus, class of 1989, and brings an abundant, diverse experience in many areas from athletics to academics, leadership to motivation.

Jesuit Announces Million Dollar Donation to School’s Tuition Assistance Endowment

Sacramento, CA – Jesuit High School Sacramento announced that Joseph ’89 and Abigail Baratta have pledged a $1 million gift to the school’s Tuition Assistance Endowment. This gift, the largest donation to the school’s current administration and one of the largest ever to the Tuition Assistance Endowment Fund, will provide direct student grants to help make a Jesuit education more accessible for more families in the Sacramento area.
The Advantages of Single-Gender Schools
Schools for boys understand boys and focus on building good men
There are many advantages of single-gender schools, both academically and spiritually. Schools for boys compose learning environments specifically for young men, and design classes structured for their unique learning style. Within the United States alone there are 31 single Jesuit high schools for boys with a goal to educate leaders who strive to build a better world.
Should Your Child Take Advanced Placement (AP) Classes?
Advanced Placement (or AP) classes are college level courses for high school students. The benefits of AP classes are integral to a student’s success in college. Students who take AP classes will be better prepared to tackle college-level curriculum and can earn credit for introductory college courses during high school. As a college preparatory institution, Jesuit High School of Sacramento encourages all students to take advanced placement courses.
KCRA 3 Jesuit High’s return to campus includes COVID-19 testing
Private school is part of a pilot project testing people onsite

CARMICHAEL, Calif. —
Jesuit High School reopened its campus this week. The Sacramento County private school is taking a new step to reduce the risk of the novel coronavirus—requiring onsite COVID-19 testing.
The school is part of a pilot project with local emergency physician Dr. Rusty Oshita and his Urgent Care Now clinic.

From the start of the pandemic, Jesuit High School Sacramento has followed the guidance of experts in public health, coordinated with local and state authorities, and committed to a return to campus when it is deemed safe to do so. With the improvement in Sacramento County COVID status to the red tier, Jesuit Sacramento is preparing to begin our phased return to campus. While our remote-learning program has been successful, our students need and want to be on campus; all of us at Jesuit Sacramento have been preparing to reintegrate into in-person learning, but we will only do so in a manner that prioritizes safety, sanity, and sustainability.
Former Jesuit HS standout aims to become motivational speaker after catastrophic injury

Former Jesuit High School standout Robert Paylor was paralyzed in the national championship rugby game on May 6, 2017, when the Cal Bears took on Arkansas State.
During the game, Paylor was tackled and broke three vertebrae in his neck.
After years of recovery, Paylor said the accident was the greatest gift so far in his life. As he aims to walk again, Paylor is also taking steps to become a motivational speaker.

Due to the current state of the coronavirus in Sacramento County and the requirements imposed by state officials, Jesuit cannot reasonably plan for in-person learning by the start of the school year. We are sure this comes as no surprise given the new school guidelines and 14-day COVID status timeframe we shared last week.

Today, we wanted to share an update on the ongoing work of the Safe Return Task Force and school leadership. Our draft of a comprehensive Safe Return Plan has been crafted based on the guidance and recommendations from dozens of agencies and organizations in the areas of public health, educational technology, and Catholic education. As we communicated in our previous message and webinar, this next step in outlining our Safe Return Plan will include Jesuit’s plan on protection and precautions (virus mitigation, face coverings, cleaning, COVID response, the science behind our framework, etc.).

Let me start by saying that I unequivocally condemn the death of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and many others. This is not and should not be a political statement but rather a matter of basic human dignity.

Festive Cap and Gown Drive-Thru Pickup on Monday, May 4
Seniors and a car-full of their family were invited to drive through and pickup their caps and gowns. Faculty and staff lined up along the route, masked and respecting social distancing to wave homemade signs and cheer on cars.
