Squid Game delivers deep messages to it’s audience at Jesuit

“Squid Game,” the South Korean hit Netflix series was released Sept. 17, 2021. “Squid Game”is about a small group of wealthy elites kidnapping and coercing the poor in South Korea, who are in grave debt, to compete in life-and-death versions of popular children’s games. “Squid Game” dystopian themes  incorporate many of the contemporary real world problems that the world faces today.

Jesuit football beats Davis High School and Sheldon High School in the run up to playoffs

On Saturday, Oct. 28, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football team beat the Davis High School Blue Devils 41-15. This win gave Jesuit a record of 8-1 and brought their winning streak to eight. 

The team continued to command the field, particularly quarterback Trenton Dewar ’23, who threw for 147 yards. Another standout performance was running back and linebacker Tatum Pappas ’23 who rushed 92 yards, recorded five tackles, and scored a touchdown. By the end of the first half, the Marauders amassed a 35-0 lead. 

Jesuit gets back-to-back victories over Cosumnes Oaks and Elk Grove

On Saturday, Oct. 9, the Jesuit High School Sacramento varsity football team beat the Cosumnes Oaks High School Wolfpack 41-6 at Jesuit High School, continuing a six-game winning streak and boasting a record of 6-1.

Jesuit started off with a touchdown in the first three minutes of the game. Only two minutes later, Jesuit scored again on a 70 yard rushing touchdown. By the end of the first half, the Marauders recorded two more touchdowns for a total of 28 points and were able to hold COHS to 6 points.

Jesuit football increases win streak with strong victory against Franklin

On Friday, Oct. 1, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders varsity football team earned a win against Franklin High School, adding another victory to their win streak with a score of 47-16, making their record 5-1 for the season. 

The game started off close, with Jesuit winning 13-8. But, the Marauders had an outstanding second quarter scoring 3 TD. The Marauders completed the game with 379 total yards which included 6 rushing TD and 1 receiving TD while holding Franklin to 2 TDs.

Jesuit football shutout Inderkum in Homecoming game

On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders had a tremendous 45-0 victory over Inderkum High School in their Homecoming football game.

The Marauders started off hot with a 12 yard TD pass just five minutes into the first quarter by quarterback Trenton Dewar ’23 to running back Kai Santos ’22, to go up 7-0. With five minutes to go in the second quarter, cornerback Jackson Hagopian ’22 made the game 14-0, with a massive 62-yard pick six.

Jesuit football pulls off win despite the loss of their starting quarterback

On Saturday, Sept. 18, the Jesuit High School Sacramento football team extended its winning streak to three in a 49-7 win against Pleasant Grove High School. 

Despite the lopsided win, Jesuit Varsity Football Scout and Film Coordinator Coach Jonathan Isaac remained grounded when assessing the team’s performance.

“We played relatively well,” Coach Isaac said. “Still a lot of sloppiness to clean up in terms of penalties and execution, but overall a solid effort.”

Jesuit defeats Christian Brothers 44-0, in the biggest shutout in Holy Bowl history

Last Saturday’s football game was the 50th anniversary Holy Bowl, and it will go down as the highest scoring shutout in Holy Bowl history with Jesuit High School Sacramento defeating the Christian Brothers High School by a score of 44-0.

Jesuit’s offense gained what turned out to be unstoppable momentum after Jackson Hagopian’s ’22 pick-six in the first quarter making the score 20-0. 

“We played phenomenal[ly],” said running-back Kai Santos ’22. “We did what we were supposed to do and we executed the plays well.”.

Jesuit football suffers disappointing loss against Folsom High School but looks forward to next game against Granite Bay

After lots of rescheduling and hoping for good air quality, the Jesuit High School Sacramento Marauders and Folsom High School Bulldogs were finally able to play against each other to open the football season on Monday, Aug. 30.

The game ended with the Marauders losing by a landslide in a 7-56 loss against the Bulldogs. Jesuit lost 3 fumbles which was a leading factor in the lopsided defeat.

Jesuit football hopes to set the tone with a win in their season opener against Folsom

Update: Due to poor air quality in Folsom, the varsity football game has been moved to Jesuit at 4:30 p.m. and we have adjusted the story to mention that.

On Friday, Aug. 27, at 4:30 p.m. the Jesuit High School varsity football team will be facing a tough opponent as their season opener is against the Folsom High School Bulldogs at Jesuit. 

Due to COVID-19, these two teams were not able to play against each other last year. The last time Jesuit faced the Bulldogs was in August of 2019, losing with a score of 12-52.
