Coaches discuss what it means to be a Marauder in 2020

Established in 1963, Jesuit High School Sacramento’s mascot was chosen to be the Marauders. This fall the significance and meaning of that mascot was explored by various perspectives within the Jesuit Community  — each member asked a variation of “In 2020, what does it mean to you to be a Marauder?” Over the next few weeks, the responses will be released in a series of articles  — this first one visits the perspectives of Jesuit’s coaches.

Seniors invited to Swing into Senior Year

Update: The “Swing into Senior Year” event has been postponed. The decision was made after Sacramento County, along with eleven other counties, reverted back to California’s most restrictive purple tier as case rates have recently seen an increase across the state.

When one door closes, another one opens

“You are never going to walk again; you are never going to move your hands.”

On May 6, 2017, a doctor from the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center uttered these words to Robert Paylor ’15, then a sophomore on the UC Berkeley rugby team. Paylor had sustained a spinal cord injury in the Varsity Cup Championship match against Arkansas State University.

To properly say farewell

Even with Digital Learning Days changing many aspects of life at Jesuit High School Sacramento, the school is doing its best to keep students connected with their end-of-year events. Donghwan Park ’20, this year’s valedictorian, is a crucial part of the effort to have graduation remain a memorable celebration for the Class of 2020.

Jesuit adapts plans for rest of 2019-2020 school year, an overview of what’s to come

With advice from state and local health officials, President Rev. John P. McGarry, S.J. and Principal Mr. Michael Wood ’99 announced Jesuit High School Sacramento would extend online learning through the end of the 2019-2020 academic year due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Students and parents received the news in an email on April 9.

A season cut short, a career still budding

With six graduates currently in professional baseball, Jesuit High School Sacramento has a reputation for producing some of the area’s best baseball talent. That number could grow even larger this summer when Major League Baseball holds its annual First-Year Player Draft.
